How the French B1 tests work
The tests ask for what real situations ask for. In “speaking up and reporting at meetings” you handle the language of a meeting, in “writing and saying a review” you write a review and justify it, and in “planning a student year in France” you outline a plan for a year abroad. Grammar questions are placed inside these tasks, so the test on “narrating an anecdote with three past tenses” checks the three past tenses while you tell a story, and “wishes, joy and surprise with que” checks whether the subjunctive appears where it should. Each test lasts 45 minutes and totals 20 points over 8 questions. A candidate preparing for a B1 exam can use the book to rehearse, and a teacher can use it to place a new student after a break.

Can I use the tests as a midterm?
Yes. Pick the chapters your class has covered, from “giving your opinion and defending it” up to the one you want to include, and add the scores. Every test uses the same 20-point scale, so totals compare fairly.
