How the French A2 tests work
The tests look at what a learner can do, not only what they remember. After “telling friends what you did last weekend”, you write about a weekend. After “getting help and advice at a French pharmacy”, you explain a minor health problem. After “picking up a rental car and driving off”, you handle a rental counter. Every test takes 45 minutes, has 8 questions and is scored out of 20, so progress is easy to follow from chapter to chapter. A learner who scores well on every test is ready for B1 material. One who struggles in “remembering childhood: then and now” or “how to advise someone politely” has a clear sign of where to go back. The tests suit independent adults checking their own progress, and teachers who need an end-of-unit assessment for an evening class.

Frequently asked questions
Who are the French A2 tests for?
It is made for adults who finished a beginner course and want to move from phrases to real conversation. Teachers, tutors and independent learners can all use them.
How long is a test and how is it scored?
Each test has 8 questions, totals 20 points and is planned for 45 minutes, with no dictionary. The answer key in Part 2 gives the points for every question, including the test on “how to advise someone politely”.
Can I use the tests as a midterm?
Yes. Pick the chapters your class has covered, from “telling friends what you did last weekend” up to the one you want to include, and add the scores. Every test uses the same 20-point scale, so totals compare fairly.
Is this a subscription?
