How the AP French tests work

Every test lasts 45 minutes, has 8 questions and is scored out of 20, so a student can follow progress chapter by chapter. Theme tests such as “who am I? language, belonging and national identity” and “innovation, ethics and access in the digital age” check vocabulary, comprehension and a written paragraph. Skill tests follow the tasks of the exam as closely as a printed book can: “winning the 15-minute email reply” asks for an email reply, “building an essay from three sources” for an answer built from several sources, and “mastering AP listening and note-taking” for notes taken from an audio passage. The scoring guides show how points are earned, so a student can mark a paper at home and see what cost marks. Teachers can use the tests as unit checks, and independent learners can time each one to build stamina before the spring session.
