Watch out with tomber

Être, not avoir

In compound tenses tomber takes être, never avoir (je suis tombé(e)). The past participle agrees with the subject: tombé, tombée.

Easy endings

Regular -er verbs share the same endings (-e, -es, -e, -ons, -ez, -ent). Silent endings are a classic spelling trap: je tombe and the subjunctive que je tombe sound the same as the plural forms.
