Watch out with paraître

Use avoir

In compound tenses paraître takes avoir (j’ai paru). The participle paru agrees only with a direct object placed before the verb.

Irregular stems

Learn the stems, not the endings: the present is je parais / nous paraissons / ils paraissent, and the future and conditional use paraîtr- (je paraîtrai, je paraîtrais).
