Watch out with obtenir

Use avoir

In compound tenses obtenir takes avoir (j’ai obtenu). The participle obtenu agrees only with a direct object placed before the verb.

Irregular stems

Learn the stems, not the endings: the present is j’obtiens / nous obtenons / ils obtiennent, and the future and conditional use obtiendr- (j’obtiendrai, j’obtiendrais).
