Watch out with peindre

Use avoir

In compound tenses peindre takes avoir (j’ai peint). The participle peint agrees only with a direct object placed before the verb.

Irregular stems

Learn the stems, not the endings: the present is je peins / nous peignons / ils peignent, and the future and conditional use peindr- (je peindrai, je peindrais).
